Abstract: This work presents the results of an investigation to uncover traces of the influence of the Triangular Proposal for the teaching of Art at municipal schools in Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil. This teaching approach was systematized by Ana Mae Barbosa in the early 1990's and has, since then, become referential in this area of knowledge. To better understand the history of that approach in Brazilian Art Teaching, we departed from its author's theoretical production and tried to reconstruct the details of its appropriation by local Art teachers. A bibliographic review, allied to reflections on the Triangular Proposal, allowed the establishment of criteria to assess the field work for this research. After that a survey was conducted with ten 5-8 grade teachers working in municipal schools in the city of Curitiba, where the syllabuses did not follow the precepts advocated by the Triangular Proposal. When the contents of the interviews were analyzed, however, we observed that the Triangular Proposal had left deep impressions. It appeared to be referential not only in the teachers' discourses but above all as a structuring device for their teaching acts. We also verified theoretical and methodological contradictions within the Triangular Proposal itself, as well as what Piaget calls deforming assimilation, on the part of teachers. In relation to public policies, we perceived an empiricist attitude that sees teachers as "tabula rasa", i.e., their only role towards a new conception of the teaching-learning process lies in swallowing it down, pill-style, to later reproduce it in their teaching. Another finding is that the deepest impression in the Art teachers' discourse is their "apriorist" pedagogical conception in relation to art learning. This impression, that seems to have been "tatooed" in the teachers' very souls, is that artistic talent is a gift. At last we point out the need to breach the gap between theory and practice, in which the teacher can build an epistemological conscience related to his/her working field, and at the same time become an epistemic subject, someone who has knowledge and is able to build knowledge. It is also necessary to redefine teaching practices that are able to, at once, demolish the prejudices on which Art ant Art teaching have been built, and reconstruct new foundations for them. The role of schools in the formation and broadening of the students' senses becomes, thus, evident, as well as their vital part in helping students to master artistic knowledge and strategies for the appreciation and production of art.
