<description>"Eu sou Sérgio Cabral" : a contribuição do homem do ‘ABC’ para a historiografia da música popular (1970-1975)
This dissertation investigates Sérgio Cabral’s historiographical contribution to the history of Brazilian popular music between 1970 and February 1975. It is based on the hypothesis that the historiography of Brazilian popular music was largely constructed by journalists, with Cabral occupying a central position in this process. Thus, the study analyzes how this contribution was structured during the period, considering his work in the press and the shift of his writing from newspapers to books. To this end, the sources used include texts and advertisements published in Jornal do Brasil, texts published in O Pasquim and Revista Realidade, as well as the book As escolas de samba (1974). Methodologically, the research is based on source analysis sheets, periodical analysis, selective reading of advertisements, and an examination of the book in terms of its materiality, paratexts, and narrative construction. The analysis shows that Sérgio Cabral’s centrality cannot be explained solely by his presence as a journalist specializing in popular music, but also by his role in the organization and public circulation of interpretations about samba and samba schools. It concludes that, within the period under study, Cabral consolidated himself as a journalist-historian, that is, as a journalist who wrote the history of popular music outside the university, alongside other figures from the press who played a similar role in that context

<title>Naquelas mesas, miudezas : boemia, sociabilidade e violência na imprensa cultural curitibana (1974-1983)</title>

<description>Naquelas mesas, miudezas : boemia, sociabilidade e violência na imprensa cultural curitibana (1974-1983)
A investigação histórica demonstra duas dimensões desta imprensa. This thesis studies the cultural press of Curitiba published between the 1970s and 1980s, produced by the same group of intellectuals. Eight publications produced by this group were mapped and studied and are considered, in the thesis, under the concept of cultural press: O Espalhafato (1974-76), Scaps (1975), Jornal de Humor (1976-77), Anexo (1976-77), Pólo Cultural (1978-79), Boca no Trombone (1980-81) and Raposa (1978 and 1980-83). The historical investigation demonstrates two dimensions of this press. The first concerns its relationship with censorship during the military regime: projects with institutional links, public or private, promoted cultural agitation and political criticism of the military dictatorship without harm. However, the two independent projects were censored in their first editions, and their editors and collaborators were registered by the DOPS-PR (Department of Political and Social Order of Paraná). The second dimension is the bohemian sociability practiced and discussed by the intellectuals who produced the periodicals studied here. Bohemian behavior was crucial to the existence and profile of these publications, as bars and restaurants functioned as spaces for dialogue and creation. The central argument of this thesis is therefore that the form of existence of the Curitiba cultural press during the dictatorship is characterized by strong institutional ties in most of its projects, a factor that defined both the limits of political criticism and the limits of state repression, while bohemian sociability constituted a recurring space for cultural production, circulation, and elaboration. To guide the argument, the main references are the texts of Robert Darnton, on the circulation of publications under censorship, and Tania Regina de Luca, who defines methodological elements for historical research work with periodicals. In addition to press sources, the thesis was based on police documents that evidenced the violence perpetrated by the military dictatorship: persecutions, censorship, imprisonments, and torture suffered by intellectuals who dedicated themselves to cultural journalism, due to their work in the periodicals analyzed. The cultural press in Curitiba, in this context, lived off the crumbs of the authoritarian regime, always short-lived, suffering or circumventing censorship, and circulated among a few tables: newsrooms, police stations, and bars. The main contribution of this work, therefore, is to highlight the historical and cultural specificities of the cultural press in Curitiba, which make it a particular and specific object of study, and which cannot be evaluated by the same criteria that guided the alternative press in other large urban centers of Brazil. In the capital of Paraná, institutional links with the mainstream press or with public power were necessary for the existence of cultural periodicals, influencing the organization, approaches, themes, and languages published in their pages. At the same time, bars, restaurants, and cabarets were places of escape, relaxation, meeting, and creativity for the producers of these periodicals, in addition to appearing in their pages as subjects for cartoons, reports, chronicles, and poems

<title>Entre a fé e a política : a trajetória do movimento estudantil e do clero católico durante o regime militar no Maranhão (1971-1989)</title>

<description>Entre a fé e a política : a trajetória do movimento estudantil e do clero católico durante o regime militar no Maranhão (1971-1989)
With the secularization of the modern world, the Catholic Church began to reorient its actions toward the expansion of lay participation, which fostered the formation of Catholic youth groups that, in certain contexts, evolved into student movements linked to ecclesiastical institutions. This study investigates the relationships between the Student Movement and the Catholic Clergy in the state of Maranhão between 1971 and 1989, using as a case study the "March for Peace" of 1978, during which students and religious figures paid tribute to Pope Paul VI in an act that also functioned as a protest against the Civil-Military Dictatorship. The study is grounded in an understanding of the Student Movement as a social movement and, therefore, as one subject to constant reconfigurations throughout its trajectory. Based on bibliographic and documentary research conducted at the Public Archive of Maranhão (APEM), specifically within the dossiers Religious Entities and Students, the analysis seeks to examine changes in repertoires, symbolisms, and the ways in which the transformations of the Catholic Church in the twentieth century resonated within the Maranhão context

<link>https://hdl.handle.net/1884/106909</link>
This dissertation investigates the internationalist dimension of the alternative newspaper Movimento, which circulated in Brazil amid the military dictatorship (1975–1976). Composed of experienced journalists, most of whom had academic backgrounds and privileged cultural capital, the newspaper represented an intellectualized segment of the Brazilian left. The members of its editorial staff developed tactics of resistance that included the use of humor, satire, and social criticism, ridiculing the authoritarian values of the regime. Its distribution relied on extensive networks of sociability and collaborators, operating primarily through subscriptions. Movimento was part of the project of reorganizing the Brazilian left by articulating an anti-imperialist internationalism, advocating for the self-determination of peoples and international solidarity, and connecting domestic resistance to global struggles against imperialism and authoritarianism. The newspaper employed journalism as a means of educating, denouncing, and fostering political reflection in a context of restrictions on information. In the analytical themes selected for this study, the newspaper criticized the mainstream press for depoliticizing conflicts and reinforcing colonial logics. The significance of Movimento, therefore, lies in its ability to function as a space for dialogue with experiences of resistance to imperialism, sustaining the horizons of solidarity of the Brazilian left
