Abstract: The so-called energy transition is strongly linked to the low carbon economy and has been driven mainly by actions to increase energy efficiency and the production of energy from renewable sources. In this sense, the wind energy market has grown exponentially in the world in recent years, with worldwide installed capacity exceeding 651 GW in 2019, mainly due to three areas of interest: energy security, production chain and environmental impact mitigation. The share of wind power has been growing in the electricity matrix in Brazil with an average annual growth rate of installed capacity of approximately 48% between 2007 and 2016. In Brazil, Petrobras was a pioneer with the intent of making the first investments in wind power generation offshore through a bidding process for a project on the coast of the state of Rio Grande do Norte with the objective of installing wind turbines in shallow water fields between 2018 and 2022. Regarding the Brazilian potential, it is observed that the development of the offshore wind energy sector in the country will play an important role in expanding and diversifying the Brazilian energy matrix in the pursuit of achieving economic, social, and environmental sustainability goals.
