O riso : a arte pura, o social e a integração na alta comédia
Abstract: Aesthetics, as well as all investigations undertaken by Bergson, rests on the concept of duration. Although it is not the object of a specific work, a certain aesthetic reflection is developed in ‘Laughter’ as in this work, the comic is treated in its relation to pure art. Within the various planes of comicity, in fact, high comedy presents a certain singularity, as it contains something aesthetic - and not just pragmatic like the comic in general -, occupying a place that challenges thought, referring at the same time to the superficial and deep, to the individual and to society. The aesthetic issue in the comic is based therefore on the notion of attention to life, dealt with in ‘Matter and Memory’, and in a way anticipates concepts that will be developed and clarified in ‘The two sources of morality and religion’, such as the fable function and the vital deficit, in addition to the very idea of life. Thus high comedy emerges as an integrating element – art and life, bearing both the mark of punishment and that of openness and creation, having as paradigms Molière, widely used by Bergson, and Shakespeare, added in this thesis.
