Abstract: The present research analyses the main programs of Assistance to Alcoholism in companies in Curitiba. However, this research presents some limitations due to the intrinsic nature of the subject. The main objective was to interpret the beginning, the systematic of accomplishment and the effects of the different programs of Assistance to Alcoholism in the company and its consequent involvement in the process of formation of Human Resources and Permanent Education. The presuppositions were: a) the programs of Assistance to Alcoholism in the companies include interventions aimed at the non-alcoholic employees (primary prevention), the treatment and the recovery of problem-drinking employees, and b) the alcoholic employee who participates in the program m the company presents a better general condition of living and reveals positive expectations in relation to his process of recovery. The Review of Literature includes a systematic study about the subject, in which the following points were pointed out: general aspects of alcoholism (diagnosis, etiology, occurrence m Brazil), the treatment (detox, hospital and ambulatory treatment, alcoholics anonymous, relapse, family's participation in the treatment) and the assistance offered in the companies (accomplishment of the programs and their repercussion). The programs of Assistance to Alcoholism of four companies of Curitiba were analyzed through the data collected from twelve professionals responsible for the programs and from thirty-five alcoholic employees. Confronting the data it was possible to verify the companies' policy in relation to alcoholism; to characterize the alcoholic employees who were included in the research (identification data, history of their alcoholism); to evaluate the penetration rate (the extent to which a program reaches its target population); to analyze the employees and their families' participation in the company's program; to identify the professionals who are responsible for the programs and their functions; to verify the impact of the programs m the employees' community (primary prevention, treatment and recovery) and the relationship among them and the Development of Human Resources and Permanent Education. It was concluded that it is necessary to face the problem not only as merely medico-psychiatrist (health-problem), focusing the multidisciplinary action for the success in the combat of alcoholism. Thus, it suggests that more professionals related to this area participate in group work m the company. The research points out that the programs of Assistance to Alcoholism in the companies promote the biopsychosocial reintegration of the alcoholic employees and make it possible the engagement of these employees, their families and all the population of employees in a permanent educational process. Finally, it reveals one more social function of the companies, when they assume the task of public order, that is, the assistance to people with problems related to the excessive use of alcoholic drinks.
