Abstract : This monograph reflects on the need for student assistance to high school students, raising the school trajectory and social context of two groups of young people, the first group of students between 14 and 24 years old who failed during this stage or left school and returned to study and a second group of young people in the same age group who dropped out of high school studies and stayed away from school benches. The analyzes gave through semi-structured interviews recorded and transcribed in this work. In addition to the interviews, this monograph has a documental and bibliographical research about the reality of secondary education and the history of student assistance for Brazilian students. The objective of the research was to present results of interviews with these individuals and to raise the needs of these social rights beings, seeking to understand the main reasons for high rates of disapproval and dropout at this stage. Although there are debates about high school, there is a risk of creating monologues, without voices of young people, so the present research seeks to create a dialogue with students, analyzing, from these subjects, the need for student assistance policies and how the absence of these actions may interfere with the quality of the education offered. Based on historical contextualization and interviews, this research whose main objective is the defense of young people as subjects of rights observed a scenario that is not prepared to give voice to these individuals, removing the youth from their rights and building themselves as political subjects of rights and duties, often falling into the social stereotype of being blamed for school failure.
