Crítica de arte e modernidade : entre a formação do artista e a educação do espectador (1940-1950)

Abstract

Resumo: A presente pesquisa tem como objeto a crítica de arte publicada em revistas e jornais na cidade de Curitiba, entre as décadas de 1940 e 1950, pretendendo analisar os discursos críticos dos movimentos modernos atuantes no período, na perspectiva de orientadores do público e de artistas. Utilizamos como ferramental teórico o conceito de intelectual de Gramsci (2001), que concebe os intelectuais como organizadores da cultura. Por meio do conceito de intelectuais mediadores de Sirinelli (2003), e da ideia da imprensa como instrumento pedagógico elaborada por Pallares- Burke (1998), construímos a hipótese de que a função de crítico de arte, exercida no período e no contexto paranaense especialmente por artistas, atuou no sentido não só de transmitir e difundir conhecimentos artísticos, mas também de fornecer parâmetros para a atuação de artistas e para a apreciação dos frequentadores de exposições. Com a modernização dos meios impressos e o incentivo das artes em meados do século XX, e com a criação de espaços expositivos de arte, ampliou-se o espaço de fala desses atores. Tais movimentações tiveram como consequência a maior recorrência de abordagens sobre o tema na imprensa paranaense. Nesse contexto, ao mesmo tempo, observa-se o desejo pela renovação artística por parte de intelectuais e artistas, verificando-se a participação da crítica de arte nos assuntos referentes à arte moderna paranaense. Para essa investigação, são utilizadas como fontes privilegiadas críticas de arte publicadas nos jornais O Dia, Gazeta do Povo, O Estado do Paraná e Diário do Paraná, bem como na revista cultural Joaquim. Abstract: The present research deals at the criticism of art published in magazines and newspapers in the city of Curitiba, between the 1940s and 1950s, aiming to analyze the critical discourses of the modern movements acting in the period, from the perspective of public and artist orientations. We use as theoretical tool the concept of intellectual of Gramsci (2001), that conceives the intellectuals like organizers of the culture. Through the concept of the mediating intellectuals of Sirinelli (2003), and the idea of the press as a pedagogical instrument elaborated by Pallares-Burke (1998), we construct the hypothesis that the function of art critic, exercised in the period and in the context of Paraná specially by artists, acted not only to transmit and disseminate artistic knowledge, but also to provide parameters for the performance of artists and for the appreciation of the public. With the modernization of print media and the encouragement of the arts in the mid-twentieth century , and with the creation of art exhibition spaces, the speaking space of these actors was expanded. Such movements have resulted in a greater recurrence of approaches on the subject in the press of Paraná. In this context, at the same time, one observes the desire for artistic renewal by intellectuals and artists, verifying the participation of art critic in the subjects related to modern art from Paraná. For this investigation, critical insights published in the newspapers O Dia, Gazeta do Povo, O Estado de Paraná and Diário do Paraná, as well as in the cultural magazine Joaquim are used as privileged sources.
