Construções comparativas no português brasileiro : uma análise sintática

Abstract

Resumo: Esta dissertação discute aspectos sintáticos das construções comparativas no Português Brasileiro (PB). Além de tentar reunir uma literatura sobre o assunto com orientação formal e descritiva, de uma maneira bastante geral, o principal objetivo é tentar discutir critérios sintáticos que ajudem a identificar (com mais facilidade, talvez, com mais precisão) uma estrutura de natureza comparativa. Entre os autores, discute-se principalmente se as construções comparativas são estruturas subordinadas adverbiais (cf. Said Ali, 1931; Cunha & Cintra, 1984; Bechara, 1999; entre outros), subordinadas complementos ou adjuntos da categoria funcional Deg (cf. Bresnan, 1973; Chomsky, 1977; von Stechow, 1984; Abney, 1987; Larson, 1988; Kennedy, 1997; Lechner, 1999; entre outros), subordinadas relativas (cf. Donati, 1997; Marques, 2003; entre outros) ou estruturas coordenadas (cf. Napoli, 1983; Moltmann, 1992; Hendriks, 1995; Matos & Brito, 2002; entre outros). Baseando-se em estudos da área, põe-se a questão de saber se se justifica a identificação das construções comparativas a um conjunto de estruturas a que a tradição gramatical chama de subordinadas adverbiais, ou se as comparativas possuem características e comportamentos que as aproximam de outros tipos de subordinadas ou de estruturas coordenadas. A especificidade das comparativas justifica uma análise diferente, pois trata-se de orações que se distinguem sob vários aspectos das estruturas adverbiais típicas. Dessa maneira, entre outras questões, há o interesse particular em descrever qual o estatuto sintático das construções comparativas e qual papel desempenham os seus conectores, para, talvez, num segundo momento, se pensar em propostas mais adequadas de classificação para as mesmas. Abstract: This dissertation discusses syntactic aspects of comparative constructions in Brazilian Portuguese (BP). In addition to trying to gather a literature about the subject with a formal and descriptive orientation, in a rather general way, the main objective is to try to discuss syntactic criteria that allow to identify (more easily, perhaps more accurately) a structure of comparative nature. Among the authors, it is mainly discussed whether comparative constructions are adverbial subordinate structures (see Said Ali, 1931; Cunha & Cintra, 1984; Bechara, 1999; among others), complements or attachments of Deg (see Bresnan, 1973; Chomsky, 1977; von Stechow, 1984; Abney, 1987; Larson, 1988; Kennedy, 1997; Lechner, 1999; among others), relative structures (see Donati, 1997; Marques, 2003; among others) or coordinate structures (see Napoli, 1983; Moltmann, 1992; Hendriks, 1995; Matos & Brito, 2002; among others). Based on studies of the area, the question arises as to whether the comparative constructions can be identified to a set of structures to which the grammatical tradition calls adverbial subordinates, or if the comparatives have characteristics and behaviors that approximate them other subordinate types or coordinate structures. The specificity of the comparatives justifies a different analysis, since these are constructions that are distinguished under several aspects of the typical adverbial structures. In this way, among other issues, there is a particular interest in describing the syntactic status of the comparative constructions, namely what structural positions they may occupy, and what role their connectors play, in order to think of more appropriate proposals for classification for them in the future.
