Numerical simulations of Brazil Current frontal eddies were performed trough FORMS technique in order to contribute with the operational oceanography at the Southeast Brazil open ocean. Based on daily sea surface temperature (SST) images from the infrared sensor aboard the Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) geostationary satellite, a study case for September 2012 was conducted to evaluate this model initialization technique. The SST gradients identied in the satellite images were used in the initialization framework in order to move towards a more realistic nowcast initial mass and 3-D velocity eld. Results were compared to in situ synoptic temperature sectional measurements. We also found the usage of the SST data allowed to calibrate the ocean model surface temperature elds and give more realistic informations for operational oceanography.pt_BR
