As representações de gênero e a educação feminina no Paraná Oitocentista

Abstract

Resumo: A pesquisa tem como objeto de estudo as representações de gênero e a educação feminina proposta pelos colégios particulares no Paraná Oitocentista, durante o período de 1849 a 1886. O problema incide em saber que tipo de instrução feminina teria ocorrido nos colégios particulares da região do Paraná na delimitação temporal escolhida. A hipótese do trabalho é a de que, no período de 1849 a 1886, dialogando com as representações de gênero vigentes, os colégios particulares femininos existentes na região propuseram-se a ofertar às meninas, das classes médias e altas, a exemplo do que ocorria em outras províncias, uma educação pautada no ideal de mulher burguesa, detentora de certos dotes intelectuais, domésticos e artísticos que deveriam estar a serviço da família. O objetivo geral será o de investigar o tipo de instrução feminina proposta pelos colégios particulares do Paraná Oitocentista, entre os anos de 1849 a 1886. Os objetivos específicos são: 1) Identificar as representações produzidas sobre as mulheres, bem como as condições em que se encontravam nesta porção geográfica em relação a outras regiões do Império; 2) Analisar as representações presentes na imprensa sobre a educação feminina e os modelos de educação a elas ofertados nos colégios particulares da Província do Paraná, enfatizando as diferenças e especificidades de gênero e de saberes, entre os currículos dos estabelecimentos voltados à instrução de ambos os sexos; 3) Investigar, a partir da trajetória da aluna de um dos colégios paranaenses do período - a pintora Iria Correa - o papel que o modelo de educação feminina, perpassado pelo ensino do desenho e da pintura amadora proposto nessas instituições, pode ter ocupado na vida e na história das mulheres que viveram nesta parte do Brasil do século XIX. Sendo a construção de gênero passível de ser moldada, ela também é uma representação social, elaborada e difundida através de discursos e práticas, como nos jornais, por exemplo, e nas diferentes instituições sociais, como parece ter sido o caso dos colégios voltados à educação feminina. Dois conceitos são importantes para a verificação dessa hipótese e a condução da presente pesquisa: o de representação, de Roger Chartier (1993), e o de gênero, conforme proposto por Joan Scott (1990). As fontes que serão interrogadas na pesquisa são constituídas por seis grandes blocos: a imprensa periódica paranaense, a documentação oficial (legislação escolar, os relatórios dos presidentes da Província e Inspetores Gerais), as correspondências de governo, relatos de viajantes e imagens variadas. Abstract: This research studies the gender representations and the female education occurred at the private schools of the state of Paraná during the 1800's, specifically between 1849 and 1886. We want to investigate what kind of female instruction occurred at the private schools in the 19th century in the state of Paraná. The hypothesis is that between 1849 and 1886, the female private schools located in the state of Paraná offered to the high and middle class girls an education based on the ideal of the bourgeois woman; this ideal puts women as the possessor of certain intellectual, domestic and artistic gifts that would always be at the service of the family; this concept dialogues with the existing gender representations, similar to what happened in other provinces. The main objective is to verify what kind of instruction the female private schools offered to the 1800's Paraná girls, specifically between 1849 and 1886. The specific objectives are: 1) to identify how women were represented in this geographical portion, as well as how those representations compare to the rest of the Empire; 2) to analyze how women education is represented by the press at that time and what were the educational models offered to the girls by the private schools of the Province of Paraná, emphasizing the gender differences and school subjects specificities related to the curriculum of educational establishments of both sexes; 3) to investigate what part the female educational model might have taken in the life of the 1800's Paraná women, using the trajectory of Iria Correa (one of the students of the schools at that time) as a study subject. Considering that the social gender construction is malleable, it is also a social representation made and spread through speeches and actions (like in the newspapers) and in different social institutions, which looks like the case of the private schools that focused the female education. In order to check this hypothesis and conduct this research, we must take two concepts into consideration: the Roger Chartier's (1993) representation concept, and Joan Scott's (1990) gender concept. The sources that will be questioned in this research are made of six bigger groups: Paraná's periodic press, official documentation (school legislation, the province presidents' and general inspectors' reports), government correspondence, travelers' descriptions and pictures.
