Abstract: Electrical energy is really important for the economic and social development, and fundamental for a better quality of life for society worldwide. The system of power generation and distribution is quite complex and it is assigned to a processor for long distances. The transformers use an insulation system consisting of a fluid and a solid insulator and a sealing system comprising an elastomeric gaskets and rings up. The insulating fluid is usually a mineral insulating oil (OMI) and most recently a vegetable oil called natural ester insulating (ENI). Shelf life of a transformer is estimated at about 20 years, but factors such as incompatibility of the fluid present in the system insulation and sealing materials often significantly reduce this lifetime and cause leaking and the loss of the transformer, as well as problems in the electricity supply. Various materials are used in the manufacturing of elastomeric seals that need, besides good mechanical properties, chemical resistance and good performance at different temperature ranges. Among the elastomers used for this purpose there is the nitrile rubber (NBR) with different levels of acrylonitrile. On this study, the was developed and evaluated the performance and compatibility of nitrile rubber formulations with different plasticizers (dioctylphthalate (DOP) and plasticizer polymer) and various vulcanization systems (dicumyl peroxide sulfur and 40% calcium carbonate) aged with insulating oil (IMO) and natural ester insulator (ENI) were developed and evaluated. It was observed that the different levels of acrylonitrile present in NBR interfere in rheometric properties, mainly in the optimal curing time, the mechanical properties after aging and material compatibility with and ENI. It was also observed the trend of the DOP in the sample migrate to ENI in TGA and DMTA analysis. The small increase of sulfur content (0.4 PHR) and hydrogen peroxide (0.8 PHR) to formulations showed not significantly affect the rheometric properties and hardness of the compositions, but seem to affect the tensile strength and elongation . The influence of the peroxidic vulcanization system was observed when compared to the sulfur and vulcanization accelerators system in aging properties.
