Abstract: Archaeological surveys indicate that shellmounds builders populations constituted communities with extensive network of relationships in a territory occupied and transformed between 10,000 and 800 years ago. In some shellmounds, the most recent occupations left layers composed of black soil with very few shell and even ceramic fragments. To expand range of interpretive context presented, it is necessary recognize the processes linked to the formation of the archaeological record and the different informational scales intrinsic to the phenomenon. They are presented here, results of the micro compositional faunal analysis from the Sambaqui Ilha das Pedras shellmound (Paranaguá Bay - Paraná) in order to verify the extent to which this remains can bring insights into the diversity of techniques to acquire animals by shellmounds builders populations over time. For both, early mollusk aquatic layers (1860 cal BP), late mollusk aquatic layers (980 cal BP) and black soil surface (850 cal BP) were sampled. As an interpretive source, we used different archaeological, ethno-historical, ethnographic, ecological and taxonomic studies, in addition to chemical tests. As results, the most abundant bone remain were fish. With an average size of 7.7 mm. The results show that most exploited fish was small, compared to fishing techniques recognized today, indicates recurrent use of techniques with nets, traps or ictiotoxic agents during long time scale. The main species of mollusks have been identified Crassostrea sp. in early mollusk aquatic layers, Mytella ssp. in late mollusk aquatic layers and Thaumastus sp. in black soil surface. The analyses suggest that the exploitation of mollusk involve, in some cases, several collectors and would be linked to environmental, economic and ideational factors, forming different depositional contexts. Finally, rises to hypothesis of deploying shellmounds in Jacareí River basin as a result of transformation of the natural landscape and maintenance of a cultural landscape. Key-words: micro remains, interpretive scaling, fishing techniques.
