dc.description.abstractResumo: Embora a coleta de lixo seja necessária à vida do ambiente urbano na sociedade de consumo, os catadores que sobrevivem do que é considerado lixo trabalham na informalidade, ignorados e identificados pela função que executam sem reconhecimento; são isolados como ilhas, invisíveis socialmente. No presente estudo buscou-se estudar os aspectos da invisibilidade social, vivida pelos catadores de lixo em seu cotidiano, através de algumas dimensões relativas aos impactos psicossociais que essa condição traz para eles e a possibilidades da educação contribuir para mudanças. Estrutura-se o trabalho em aportes de três campos, um ligado as desigualdades sociais e territorialidades derivadas, em parte, do campo da Geografia, com autores como Santos (2003; 2008; 2009) e Josué de Castro (1984), outro ao da Psicologia Social Comunitária, dentro de uma proposta de conscientização e participação comunitária, com autores como Freitas (2003; 2005; 2008) e Lane (1981; 2001); e dimensão educativa com a proposta de educação conscientizadora apoiada na Filosofia, com base teórica em Paulo Freire (1987; 1996; 2000). Por se tratar de uma pesquisa bibliográfica apoiouse nas publicações relativas a essa problemática dos catadores divulgadas em periódicos especializados (na base de dados SciELO) e nas teses e dissertações (das bibliotecas digitais de teses e dissertações de domínio público e Capes). Procedeu-se a seleção desse material, sua sistematização e analise de conteúdo, tendo sido identificados cinco eixos temáticos relativos às condições de vida, caracterização, riscos de saúde e vida, identidade e imaginário ligado ao lixo, e redes de apoio psicossocial. A análise qualitativa dos materiais e conteúdos sistematizados permitiu compreender algumas dimensões que acompanham os catadores em seu trabalho diário e em sua vida cotidiana. Assim, detectou-se a importância da realidade vivida por eles e os significados atribuídos em sua rede de relações. Identificaram-se algumas faces da vida dos catadores, como: a pobreza, exposição e riscos à vida, o trabalho clandestino, informal e sem vínculos empregatícios, a apatia e conformismo com a sua realidade, a convivência com preconceitos e estigmas de exclusão social, e a freqüente baixa escolaridade. Os resultados mostram que os catadores são verdadeiros guerreiros solitários, lutadores que encontram no lixo o trabalho e a força para sobreviver, e nesse ambiente constroem um espaço para trabalhar com honestidade. Por último, acredita-se que a educação e as relações comunitárias poderiam fazer a diferença para determinar ou auxiliar a melhoria de acesso ao trabalho, construindo estratégias para enfrentar as adversidades em que vivem, revertendo os efeitos da invisibilidade no processo de exclusão social dos catadores. dc.description.abstractAbstract: Although scavenging garbage whether necessary environment life urban consumer society, Scavengers that survive of what is considered trash work for informality , ignored and identified by the function that they performed without recognition; they are isolated like islands, socially invisible. In the present study we search for studying aspects of social invisibility experienced by garbage collectors in their daily lives, through some dimensions related to psychosocial impacts that this condition brings them and the possibilities of education contribute to changes. Structured work in three fields contributions, a connected social inequalities and territoriality derived in part from the Geography field, with authors such as Santos (2003 ; 2008; 2009) and Josué de Castro (1984), another to the Community Social psychology inside a proposal awareness and community participation , with authors like Freitas (2003 ; 2005; 2008) and Lane (1981 ; 2001) ; and educational dimension to the proposed awareness education supported in Philosophy, with theoretical basis of Paulo Freire (1987 ; 1996; 2000) . Because it is literature leaned in publications concerning this problem of scavengers disclosed in professional journals (in SciELO data base) and the theses and dissertations (digital library of theses and dissertations in the public domain and Capes). Proceeded to the selection of the material, its systematization and content analysis, were identified five themes for the living conditions, characterization, risk health and life, identity and imagination on the trash, and psychosocial support networks. Qualitative analysis of materials and systematized content allowed understand some dimensions that accompany the collectors in their daily work and in their everyday life. Thus, it detected the importance of reality experienced by them and the meanings assigned in your network of relationships. They identified some faces of the lives of scavengers, such as poverty, exposure and risk to life, moonlighting, informal and without employment contracts, apathy and conformism with their reality, living with prejudice and stigma, social exclusion, and the low frequent schooling. The results show that the collectors are true lone warriors, fighters who are in the trash work and the strength to survive in this environment and build a space to work honestly. Finally, it is believed that education and community relations could make a difference to determine or assist the improvement of access to work, building strategies to face adversity in which they live, reversing the effects of invisibility in the process of social exclusion of collectors.
