| pt_BR |
dc.description.abstract | Abstract: Guided by the theory of fictional modes developed by Northrop Frye, this study aims to demonstrate how the Romance elements engender the structural duplicity of O sertanejo, José de Alencar?s last novel. In this sense, the mixture of tragic fiction and comic fiction is a procedure that establishes the irony of the narrative voice and the analogy between the patriarchal worldview and the medieval worldview, which is why the dialectical structures of the desirable and the undesirable contained within the story of the impossible love between Arnaldo and Flor mark the step that the archaic takes towards the modern. The principle of the displacement of fictional modes shows how heroism and banditry are interfaces of the protagonist, whose development oscillates between the high imitative mode and the low imitative mode. The ambiguity built is also responsible for the caricature that makes the patriarchal command risible. Finally, the investigation conducted in this work corroborates the romantic diction of Alencar?s narrator, establishing a relation between the aesthetic assumptions of the first generation of German Romanticism and the significant procedures analyzed in the writing of O sertanejo. | pt_BR |
