Ao Correr da pena : história e representação dos Kaingang no Jornal A Vóz de Chapecó, 1939-1953

Abstract

Resumo: No na primeira metade do século XX, uma parte da região Sul do Brasil passou por um processo de intensa ocupação. Disputas territoriais entre Brasil e Argentina, e posteriormente entre Santa Catarina e Paraná, resultaram em políticas nacionais e estaduais de ocupação territorial do atual município de Chapecó. Uma grande leva de colonos foi deslocada do Rio Grande do Sul rumo à região que estava sendo ocupada. Aproveitando da situação, empresários riograndenses aderiram ao projeto da colonização, comprando extensas áreas de terra no oeste catarinense para venderem a colonos trazidos do estado vizinho. Com a ocupação das terras, índios que viviam na região passaram a enfrentar dificuldades, principalmente relacionadas à ocupação das áreas onde viviam. Com o povoamento, surgiram alguns municípios, como Chapecó. Nessa cidade, um grupo criou, no ano de 1939, o primeiro jornal da região. Nele, o tema "índios" recebeu especial atenção de Antonio Selistre de Campos, um dos fundadores do jornal e dos seus principais articulistas. Ao tratar da questão, ele construiu, por meio de seus escritos, determinadas representações dos índios que habitavam o município. Nota-se, em seus escritos, grande empenho em contribuir com a melhoria de vida dos índios. Ao mesmo tempo, seus artigos sobre os indígenas expressam também a defesa de um projeto político e partidário, que partilhava com um grupo específico do município e do Estado. As representações que este articulista construiu sobre os indígenas e a relação desta construção com sua atuação política são as principais questões investigadas nesta dissertação.

Abstract: In the first half of the twentieth century, a part of southern Brazil has undergone a process of intense occupation. Territorial disputes between Brazil and Argentina, and later between the southern Brazilian states of Santa Catarina and Paraná, resulted in national and state policies of territorial occupation of the current city of Chapecó, located in Santa Catarina. A great wave of settlers was moved from the state of Rio Grande do Sul heading to the region that was being occupied. Taking advantage of the situation, entrepreneurs from Rio Grande do Sul joined the colonization project, purchasing large patches of land in the western region of Santa Catarina in order to sell to the settlers brought from the neighboring state. With the occupation of the land, indians, who lived in the region, began to face difficulties, mainly those related to the occupation of the areas where they lived. In decorrence of the settlement, some municipalities emerged, such as Chapecó. In 1939, at this town, a group created the first newspaper ofvthe western region. The theme "indians", on this newspaper, received special attention from Antonio Selistre de Campos, one of the founders of the newspaper and one of its main contributors. In addressing to the question, he has built, through his writings, certain representations of Indians who inhabited the city. It is noticeable, in his writings, a strong commitment in contributing to improving the indians’ lives. At the same time, his articles written about the Indians also express advocacy of a political and partisan project, who shared with a municipal and state group. The representations that this correspondent has built over the Indians and the relationship of this construction with their political activity are the main issues investigated in this dissertation.
