O período complexo na obra de Ernest Hemingway : the snows of Kilimanjaro and other stories

Abstract

Resumo: Esta dissertação é o resultado de uma análise sintática dos períodos complexos em inglês encontrados em The Snous of Kilimanjaro and Other Stories, do escritor norte-americano, Ernest Hemingway. A base teórica para esta pesquisa,foi o Construturalismo que toma a clausula (período do emissor e período do receptor), como ponto de partida para sua descrição iingüística e, pelo método dedutivo, chega à sentença , elemento do período. Este trabalho distingue entre os termos período e sentença (freqüentemente confundidos), conce.ituando-os mais adequadamente. Faz rápida alusão a morfologia e a fonologia do período, enfatizan do ' sua sintaxe, mais especificamente os períodos complexos. Apresenta o molde periodal Construtural que é /BXS/; isto é, sen tença-base com sentença(s)-suplemento, em que a base é o sol dá estrutura e os suplementos, os planetas que se relacionam com aquele. Define o período complexo fazendo a distinção entre a sentença- base e a(s) sentença(s)-suplemento. Classifica em numero de dez, os diferentes suplementos encontrados na obra em questao, distinguindo-os entre si por . características próprias de ocupantes (elementos capazes de preencher as diferentes funções destes suplementos), de ordem (em que podem ocorrerdmtro do período) e de transformação (a que se sujeitam), dando ampla exemplificação.

It refers briefly to the morphology, and to the phonology of the utterance, emphasizing its syntax, specifically the complex utterances. It presents the pattern of the Constructural utterance uhich is /BXS/; that is, one base-sentence with suplementary-sentence (s )', in uhich the base is the'sun'of the structure and the suplements are the ' planetsuhich relate to the sun. It defines the complex utterance, making a clear distinction between the base-sentence and the suplementary-sentence(s). It classifies, in number of ten, the different suplements found in the uork in question, distinguishing them from each other by virtue of fillers (the elements uhich may fill up the functions of these suplements),of order (in uhich they may occur in the utterance) and of transformation(to which they submit ), giving extensive exemplification for each of them.
