Abstract: This paper aims to identify whether the speech that tends to (super)highlight an experience of immersion in relation to a diploma in "Letras" (graduation in language teaching) really exists. The work also presents some statements which contribute to the construction of the predominant discourse, including: reasons related to social political, economic and technological aspects, that 'impose' need to learn English; an advertising speech that emphasizes the need to speak this language, the Brazilian educational laws that reduces the hours of Foreign Language classes and other factors that influenced the growth of the English courses. Moreover, the work seeks to identify the speeches that are directly involved in teaching foreign language - students, teachers and coordinators of English courses - and how this speech has been reflected. For this, questionnaires were used, which pointed out the importance of experience abroad and the graduation in language teaching in the labor market and in the practice in the classroom. In addition, this paper wants to investigate the ways used by English schools and teachers in order to update their knowledge.
