Ácidos graxos essenciais comparados ao Gerioox® no tratamento do olho seco por facectomia em cães

Abstract

Nesta pesquisa, objetivou-se identificar a ação de duas formulações de ômega três via oral em cães apresentando epiteliopatia neurotrófica induzida resultante de facectomia. Fizeram parte do estudo quatorze animais portadores de luxação ou subluxação anterior bilateral do cristalino. A raça escolhida foi o Cocker Spaniel, devido a sua predisposição a luxação do cristalino e ao olho seco senil. Os animais foram divididos em sete indivíduos para cada um dos tratamentos. A primeira formulação consistiu de ômega três de óleo de peixe. A segunda formulação consistiu em um novo medicamento geriátrico indicado para cães e gatos (Gerioox®) que possui em sua formulação, além do ômega três, outros elementos como: glucosamina destrogera, condroitina sulfato A, cobre, zinco, sódio e vitamina E. Os tratamentos tiveram início no quinto dia após a cirurgia e foram mantidos por sessenta dias. Foram realizadas avaliações oftálmicas no pré-operatório imediato e em seis diferentes momentos do pós-operatório (cinco, dez, quinze, trinta, quarenta e cinco, sessenta e noventa dias). Além da oftalmoscopia direta utilizou-se o teste lacrimal de Schirmer 1 e o tempo de ruptura do filme lacrimal com fluoresceína. No quinto após o procedimento cirúrgico foi evidenciada a instalação da epiteliopatia neurotrófica causada pela facectomia. No decorrer do tratamento, observou-se melhora do quadro clínico e recuperação em todos os animais. Porém, houve evolução diferenciada dos parâmetros de qualidade e quantidade de lágrima entre os dois grupos. Uma melhora estatisticamente significante nos parâmetros do grupo que recebeu o Gerioox® foi verificada, sendo o tempo de recuperação deste grupo quase um terço menor do que o outro. Como a formulação que apresentou melhor quadro evolutivo possui menores quantidades de ômega três, substância que tem indicação reconhecida no tratamento de olho seco, evidencia-se a necessidade de novas investigações desta formulação em particular e de seus demais componentes isoladamente, além de pesquisas sobre as diferentes fontes e dosagens de ômega três pra o tratamento do olho seco

The aim of investigation was idenify the action of two oral formulations of omega-3 for dogs presenting neuroptrophic eptheliopathy induced by cataract surgery. Were studied fourteen animals with bilateral anterior dislocation or subluxation of the lens. The chosen breed was the Cocker Spaniel due to its predisposition to dislocation of the lens and senile dry eye. The animals were divided into seven subjects for each of the treatments. The first formulation consisted of omega-3 from fish oil. The second formulation consisted of a new geriatric medicine indicated for dogs and cats (Gerioox®), which has in its formulation, in addition to the omega-3, other elements such as: glucosamine destrogera, condroitina The sulfate, copper, zinc, sodium and vitamin E. The treatments began on the fifth day after surgery and were maintained for sixty days. Ophthalmic evaluations were performed before surgery immediately and in six different times of post-operative (five, ten, fifteen, thirty, forty-five, sixty and ninety days). Besides the direct ophthalmoscopy were used the Scrirmer tear test 1 and the tear film break up test with fluorescein. In the fifth day after the surgical procedure was evident the installation of neurotrophic epitheliopathy caused by the lens extraction. In the development of the treatment, there was improvement in clinical status and recovery in all animals. However, there were different trends of the parameters of quality and quantity of tear between the two groups. A statistically significant improvement in the parameters of the group that received the Gerioox® was verified, and the time for recovery of this group almost a third lower than the other. As the formulation that showed better evolutionary framework has smaller quantities of omega-3, substance that has recognized indication for the treatment of dry eye, highlighting the need for further investigations in this particular formulation and its other components alone, in addition to research on the different sources and doses of omega three pra the treatment of dry eye
