Abstract: The objective of this dissertation is to identify the relationship among personal financial planning, organizational financial decisions and organizational performance at retail stores in the downtown area of Curitiba. Such proposal was structured due to the low number of researches that is interested in the study of the variables related to the finances of the small companies and to the personal financial practices of the leaders of such small size organizations. In this way, a theoretical-empiric reference picture that tries to unite the three main points of that investigation was elaborated. The operational part of the research happened in two successive phases: firstly, a qualitative phase was accomplished based on nine non-structured interviews in order to identify the business managers' personal and organizational financial practices; the second phase was accomplished through a survey, which involved the application of 236 structured questionnaires, of which 208 were considered valid, when trying to measure the variables of the study. Aiming to put together the several indexes that were identified in the first phase of the investigation, it was opted for the application of the Factorial Analysis of Main Components. The application of that multivaried technique made the reduction of a great number of indexes for few varied numbers possible, starting from scales with multiples indexes. The solution of the factorial analysis revealed that there are six more general factors capable of representing patterns in the financial decisions of the company, which are: financing sources, distribution of the profits, investment in restoration and pieces of equipment, investment in courses and training, investment in expansion, investment in materials and in divulging. In relation to the practices of personal financial planning, eight factors were identified for its measurement: administration of risk, planning of the cash flow, inheritance planning, retirement planning, analysis of investments, financial investments, investments in patrimony and administration of taxes. The variables of organizational performance were contained into a single factor, revealing, in this way, a unidimensional structure in the analysis of main components. Once those factors were identified, the variable of organizational performance, starting from the average of the factors indexes, was submitted to a cluster analysis, in order to verify possible differences among different groups companies. In that analysis, the existence of three groups of organizational performance was identified: a group of high, a group of medium or a group of low performance. Afterwards, the Analysis of Variance and of Multiple Comparisons indicated which varied could discriminate those clusters with heterogeneous performance. In relation to those groups, it was verified statistically significant differences concerning to their practices of organizational investments, the manager's personal investments, the planning of the personal cash flow and the retirement planning, and those factors, therefore, present relationship with the organizational performance. There is no statistically significant correlation between performance and financing practices and with the company's distribution of profit. In order to find out if some of the managers' personal characteristics were able to have any influence on the variation of the performance of the investigated organizations, a test of proportions was accomplished (Qui-square). None of the tested characteristics were considered responsible for the difference of performance of the organization. Thus, the conclusions of the study point out empiric evidences of the relationships proposed in this dissertation, in that it is verified that the quality of the financial decision made by the manager is a decisive factor in the organizational performance.pt_BR
