Sobre o céu, a terra, a água e o ar : representações de viajantes ilustrados sobre a Amazôbia entre 1735 e 1815
Abstract
Resumo: O tema e a representacao da Amazonia realizada pelos viajantes Charles Marie de La Condamine (1736), Pe. Joao Daniel (1751), Padre Dr. Jose Monteiro de Noronha (1768), Ouvidor Francisco Xavier Ribeiro de Sampaio (1774), Naturalista Alexandre Rodrigues Ferreira (1783) e os cientistas Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius e Johann Baptiste von Spix (1817). Realizadas no "longo seculo XVIII", estas viagens expressam um novo olhar metropolitano sobre as terras americano marcado, sobretudo, pela educacao ilustrada dos seus viajantes. A literatura de viagem produzida por estes viajantes discorre sobre varios aspectos de uma regiao geografica que, ainda hoje, alimenta um imaginario coletivo. Cada um, de acordo com a sua formacao cultural procurou relatar o que viu e vivenciou na sua viagem que, de forma geral, seguiu o mesmo roteiro fluvial do Rio Amazonas e seus afluentes: povoacoes, acidentes geograficos, riquezas naturais e atividades economicas. Mais especificamente, analisa-se a representacao da paisagem amazonica presente na literatura de viagem produzida por estes viajantes entre 1735 e 1815. Abstract: The theme is the representation of the Amazon made by travelers Charles Marie de La Condamine (1736), Fr. John Daniel (1751), Priest Dr. Jose Monteiro de Noronha (1768), Ombudsman Francisco Xavier Ribeiro de Sampaio (1774), naturalist Alexandre Rodrigues Ferreira (1783) and scientists Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius and Johann Baptiste von Spix (1817). Performed the "long eighteenth century", these trips express a new look on American metropolitan land marked mainly by education illustrated their travelers. The travel literature produced by these travelers discusses various aspects of a geographical region that today still feeds a collective imagination. Each, according to their cultural backgrounds sought to report what he saw and experienced in his journey that, in general, followed the same script river of the Amazon River and its tributaries: settlements, landforms, natural resources and economic activities. More specifically, it looks at the representation of the Amazon landscape present in travel literature produced by these travelers between 1735 and 1815.
