Abstract
Abstract: With the aim of relating the substances and physical characteristics of clay fraction with some physical properties of soils, two classes of latosols (red - yellow latosol - LBw and dusky - red latosol - LVdf) were studied, with different degrees of development (oxides and kaolinite) originating from the volcanic rocks of the Serra Geral Formation, in the state of Parana. Of each soil class, a sample was selected, of which deformed and indeformed examples of horizon B of different positions in the landscape were analyzed. Through the chemical and mineralogical analyses performed in the laboratory it was observed that the minerals of the day fraction were principally composed of kaolinite, gibbsite, goethite and hematite, in different concentrations between the latosols and between each sample. Apart from the position in the landscape, the level of Si in the parent material influenced the levels of these minerals in the clay fraction. By means of physical analysis it was observed that characteristics associated with the structure of horizon B were markedly influenced by the mineralogical composition of the day fraction. Hm, Gt and Gb were responsible for the improvement of the attributes of LBw, increase in the macroporosity, total (Pt) and checking to the soil reduction in the density of the soil Ds. Opposite influence was verified for to Ct, Gb, Hm and Gt in the fractionclay were not significant four LVdf. Seemingly, the oxides of Fe and Al of low cristallyne were more important in the increment of the macroporosity and Pt of the horizons of LVdf. The physical characteristcs the soil was proven by the exam micromorphological. In LBw as it increased the kaolinite countants and it reduced the countants of oxides of iron and aluminum, the structure in blocks it started to prevail, turning the densesd soil. The properties cristalographical of the minerals of the fraction clay presented, in a general way, discreet participation in the physical properties of Latossoils.
