"Segundo conta a estoria..."
Abstract
O amor e a amizade deveriam fundamentar as relações sociais. Abstract: From the General Chronicle of Spain of 1344, whose authorship was attributed to Count Pedro Afonso de Barcelos, this thesis was conducted, discussing the importance of Chronistic Literature in Iberic Peninsula and, especially, this work. It was important analyze the context of the author to seek the motivations that led the Count Pedro Afonso, bastard son of King Dinis and brother of Afonso IV, to write, in first place, a Book of Lineages in 1340, and then the Chronicle in 1344. What was sought, in both works: features that allow the elaboration of idealized profiles of nobility and king to the reality experienced by the author in the fourteenth century. Reality that was increasingly marked by a process of concentration of royal power and by the attempt, of the nobility, for assertion of their power in society. The good king appears as a central figure in the regulation of society, responsible for the administration of justice and for the promotion of the common good, based on the good relationship between king and nobility. It is the king of the Reconquest, which fights Muslims, conquer territories and thus guarantees the unity of Christendom. The Count does not refer to a centralized political power, the "hispanic unit" would be achieved through linkage between king and nobles, around a common goal. This unit would remove internal divisions and avoid the weakening of the society. Virtues such as honor, friendship, fidelity, loyalty, mutual aid, are part of the characterization of the noble ideal. Love and friendship should support social relationships. An alleged "hispanic unit" pervades his works, contrasting with a reality marked by divisions and particularities
