Abstract
Abstract: This dissertation presents the practices experienced by the brazilian agents of the Free Software and Open Source Community and their meanings about the experience with the artifacts. We seek to demonstrate the techno-scientific controversies about the software, made evident from the conceptualization of the Free Software and Open Source, and how this artifacts constitute and are constituted by socio-technical networks. We also describe the characteristics of the collaborative model of Free Software and Open Source production, pointing to the user-developer idea. Focusing our attention on the controversies, we seek to demonstrate how the proposal founders construct statements and translate interests in order to conceptualize the artifacts, and how the agents themselves take ownership of these artifacts and give them a new meaning. Based on the theoretical and methodological orientation of Actor-Network Theory, we investigate an extension of Free Software and Open Source sociotechnical networks, through the application of electronic questionnaire with 80 agents. The research points to the heterogeneity of agents and meanings about the technology production, leading us to say that the black box of software still remains open.
