A estrutura sintática das resultativas adjetivais no alemão : uma proposta a partir de Kratzer (2005)
Abstract
Abstract: The subject of the present work is the adjectival resultatives in German. Through this research we intend to raise some questions about the German adjectival resultative semantics and syntax, and also differentiate them from similar structures. By adjectival resultative we mean an eventuality with an action reading denoted by the main verb, and a resultant state expressed by the AP. In a structure as [V DPAcc AP], the adjectival phrase AP has the resultant state reading over the DPAcc. The data have a causative interpretation coming from the matrix verb; following the verb, there is an argument that seems to bear the consequences of this cause. The event result triggered by the verb has some expression in the AP. That’s the reason why the data are called adjectival resultatives. We will base this work on Kratzer’s (2005) roposal. The author analyses mainly the adjectival resultatives in German, and presents an approach supported by a great amount of empiric evidence. Kratzer’s (2005) hypothesis restricts the adjectival resultative occurrence in German only with intransitive inergative verbs, excluding also the adjectival resultative occurrence in transitives and unaccusative verbs. The author also argues that the DP Acc is an argument of the adjective. Such an approach raises the question of how may this structure be syntactically represented according to the Principles and Parameters Theory, based on Chomsky (1981, 1986, 1995), Chomsky e Lasnik (1993), Rizzi (1990), Lasnik e Uriagereka (1988), inter alia. In so far, the main goal of this work is to propose a syntactic approach to the adjectival resultatives in German. We’ll adopt the semantics on Kratzer (2005), and then develop our own syntactic analysis for the German adjectival resultatives.
