As ideias tomadas "formalmente" : realidade objetiva e falsidade material em Descartes
Abstract
Abstract: The dissertation.s subject is the distinction, as well as the relationship, between idea and thing in Descartes. As the pretext for such a relationship is, since the proof of God's existence, Descartes' concept of objective reality of idea, we start with this concept, having as background its distinction in relation to the thinking substance, that is, more precisely, to the formal reality of idea. Once considered this question in light of the distinction of reason and the real distinction, we pass to analysis of materially false ideas, whose objective reality is problematic. This analysis is done both in the proof of bodies. existence and in Cartesian answers to Arnauld.s criticisms. Finally, we interpret the objective reality on the basis of formal reality of thing, taking into account the causality on the one hand, and the difference between ideas, on the other. Thus, we observe that the formal reality of thing plays the role of principle of difference of objective reality, so as to remove an infinite regression between ideas, generated by the principle of causality. Accordingly, availing ourselves of the notion of formal cause, we conclude that the distinction between idea and thing is a distinction of reason. Since this seems to apply only to ideas of things, we still consider fictive ideas, which ones are ideas of ideas.
