As necessidades dos profissionais de hotelaria em relação à língua inglesa
Abstract
Resumo : O objetivo da presente dissertação foi levantar as necessidades dos profissionais do setor hoteleiro de Curitiba, no que se refere ao uso da língua inglesa. As técnicas de pesquisa que contribuíram para a realização deste trabalho foram a análise ocupacional e a análise de conteúdo. A primeira foi utilizada para identificar os cargos cujo exercício exigirá algum conhecimento da língua inglesa, e também para especificar as respectivas comunicativas. Uma vez identificados os cargos e as tarefas, a análise de conteúdo foi empregada a fim de que os dados fossem categorizados para traçar os perfis das necessidades comunicativas dos ocupantes dos tais cargos. A partir de tais perfis foram inferidos alguns requisitos lingüísticos necessários para a realização das tarefas identificadas. Os resultados mais relevantes dizem respeito às habilidades lingüísticas mais necessárias e ao nível de proficiência da língua-alvo. Constatou-se que as habilidades da fala e entendimento da fala são as mais importantes no setor hoteleiro por capacitarem os funcionários a realizarem uni maior número de tarefas, sendo também as habilidades com maior freqüência de uso. Com relação ao nível de proficiência na língua-alvo, a maior parte dos cargos pesquisados exige um conhecimento básico da língua-alvo, envolvendo principalmente o domínio de funções lingüísticas de comunicação formulaica, que se repetem em situações previsíveis. Abstract : The objetive of the present dissertation was to analyse the English language needs of hotel staff in Curitiba.The main techniques used were job analysis and content analysis. The former was used to identify the posts which required a certain knowledge of English to perform certain tasks, as well as to specifly these tasks. The latter was used in order to cetegorize the data and draw up a profile of employee's communicative needs. These profiles were then interpreted in terms of the linguistic requirements needed to perform the tasks. The most relevant conclusions from the data analysis concern the most important, sand most frequent, linguistic skills and the proficiency level in the target-language. It was found that the speaking and the listening skills are the most important, and most frequent in tliat context. These skills are needed to enable staff to perform a larger number of activities. With regard to the level of proficiency in the target language, the majority of posts investigated required a basic knowledge of the language, which
includes the comman of certain linguistic functions for formulaic communication, which are repetitive, within predictable situations.
