Possíveis versões do imperfeito do indicativo na língua inglesa
Abstract
Abstract: This paper first diagnoses the difficulties of translating a Portuguese verbal form, imperfeito do indicativo, into American English; then theory is followed by practice as this verbal form is focused on the selected corpus: a close examination of two texts, - Menino de Engenho by José Lins do Rego , and its American translation Plantation Boy by Emmi Baum. Although different ways to express the values of
imperfeito do indicativo in English were detected , the translation process still presents more loss than gain, mainly in relation to the imperfective meaning of the form.
