Logo, as políticas linguísticas do estado são usadas como ferramentas para tal processo de universalização Abstract: This thesis aimed to analyze and discuss educational policies situated in a scenario where students of Russian descent, quilombolas, and urban zone students interact, in order to investigate how these policies represent the research participants and their situated language practices. Considering language as a social practice (PENNYCOOK, 1994, 2010), the discussions presented here seek to problematize the linguistic and cultural complexity present in face-to-face/remote classes with this public and also how the research participants (students from a school here referred to as Rainbow) interpret such practices in face of their local realities, where encounters between languages and cultures occur. Theoretically, because critical reflection contributes to the understanding and problematization of the multiple language practices of Rainbow School students, the discussion was based on Critical Applied Linguistics, mainly Makoni; Pennycook (2007, 2020); Garcia (2009); Garcia; Wei (2007); Menezes de Souza (2019); Blommaert (2006, 2010), and decolonial studies (MIGNOLO, 2002; WALSH; MIGNOLO, 2019; SOUSA SANTOS, 2007). Regarding methodology, ethnography was adopted as epistemology, in which all research and knowledge practices are social, political, and historical. Given all the particularities presented in the scenarios that served as the investigative research field, it is believed that ethnography as a methodological principle allows for recording the situated actions of the participants and also enables establishing connections between the totality and the particular, between generalizations and very specific things (FABIAN, 2006), always aiming for a reflexive, open, and collaborative investigative process. Thus, through this approach, we sought to understand and problematize the encounters and mismatches of students of Russian descent and quilombolas who share time/space in the educational context of Rainbow School. Considering that the interests of ethnography are people and their worlds (HYMES, 1996), and therefore this type of study is interested in describing and interpreting cultural meanings of a certain group, the results point to the assimilation and essentialization of language and cultural practices of students of Russian descent and quilombolas, who are invented as monolingual and monocultural. Hence, state language policies are used as tools for this universalization process
