Undocumented migrants in the USA : Brazilians apprehended and deported
This study aims to analyze the procedures that undocumented Brazilian immigrants are subjected to when they are detained and deported from the United States, as a result of their migratory status. The main focus of this study is to give visibility to the reality of being an undocumented migrant in the United States, and, at the same time, to discover whether the rights of these migrants are being guaranteed or not and to what degree American and Brazilian governmental policies have contributed to this. To understand this reality, a quantitative approach was chosen to showcase in numbers the continuous growth in the numbers of detention and deportation of undocumented Brazilians from the United States. The quantitative analysis was complemented by the qualitative method, carried out by conducting an interview with a Brazilian who immigrated and was deported from the United States and by the concatenation of multiple narratives of migrants who had the experience of being detained and deported from the United States displayed in the media. The results found by this research reveal that, in this context, migrants face the most diverse afflictions to rights related to both their physical and moral integrity, and the current American migratory system yet does not point to any close expectations of change
