Abstract: In the field of Game Studies, one seeks to answer the question: how can the Discursive Design Studies outlook contribute to the deepening of video games critique? Therefore, the goal of this research is to propose recommendations for the analysis of video games, which are grounded on the exploration of the discursive approach in a pilot analysis of one such artefact. After delineating the methodological process of the research, a game of critical and cultural notoriety is selected as the object of the pilot analysis. The approach adopted in the analysis is then contextualized, and the history of video games is briefly described. Having concluded the pilot analysis - which takes the form of iterative cycles and aims to find relevant connections from and towards the selected game -, the results are discussed in light of the positive and negative points of the approach applied, and of the current scenario of video game critique. Onwards, recommendations for applying this approach to other games are described. With this, one aims to contribute to the fording of a gap in the theoretical-critical study of video games - that is rooted in the saturation of already stagnant strategies in this field -, and to underlining of the cultural relevance of video games.
