História da Adama Agricultural Solutions

Abstract

Resumo: Este trabalho traça um histórico da empresa Adama Agricultural Solutions, que éuma das líderes mundiais do mercado de produtos equivalentes (patente vencida)da indústria de agrotóxicos. A empresa estudada foi resultado da fusão entre aMakhteshim e a Agan, duas empresas israelenses fundadas na década de 1940(contexto do movimento sionista em Israel). E foi, recentemente, comprada por umaestatal chinesa, ChemChina, em uma negociação que movimentou o valor de 2,4 bilhões de dólares. O objetivo deste artigo é a compreensão da história da Adama Agricultural Solutions por meio das estratégias de crescimento adotadas pela mesma ao longo de sua trajetória. Para tanto, propõe-se a combinação de dois referenciais de análise: a teoria do crescimento da firma de Edith Penrose, que analisa crescimentos internos (diversificação) e externos (aquisições e fusões); e a lógica de multinacionalização de capitais, proposta por John Dunning e Sarianna Lundan.

Abstract: This article aims to provide an historical retrospect of the company Adama Agricultural Solutions, which is one of the world leaders of the generic crop protection products in the agrochemical industry. The company was born from a merger between Makhteshim and Agan, two Israeli companies founded in the 1940s (in the context of the Zionist movement in Israel). It was recently purchased by a Chinese state-owned company, ChemChina, a trade which handled the value of 2.4 billion dollars. The purpose of this article is to understand the history of Adama Agricultural Solutions through growth strategies adopted by the company throughout the years. It is proposed then the combination of two analytical frameworks: the theory of the growth of firm by Edith Penrose, that analyzes internal growth (diversification) and external growth (mergers and acquisitions); and capital multinationalization logic, proposed by John Dunning and Sarianna Lundan.
