Entendimento e razão na teoria da causalidade de Kant

Abstract

Resumo: O presente trabalho tem por objetivo analisar o argumento da Segunda Analogia da Crítica da Razão Pura, com ênfase na avaliação da acusação de non sequitur que tradicionalmente pesa sobre ele. O capítulo inicial trata do problema da causalidade conforme ele foi formulado e respondido por David Hume, com o objetivo de contextualizar o problema filosófico em que a pesquisa está inserida. Feita essa contextualização, serão analisados os argumentos de Kant apresentados na Segunda Analogia em seus próprios termos, procurando esclarecer os conceitos, os pressupostos e os objetivos a que se destinam. Em seguida, analisaremos os argumentos de Peter Strawson, comentador que acusa Kant de, na Segunda Analogia, incorrer em non sequitur em sua argumentação. Feito isso, serão explorados dois caminhos de resposta, norteados por Lewis Beck e Henry Allison. Lewis Beck deixa pistas importantes sobre uma possibilidade de resposta kantiana à acusação de Strawson, ao identificar uma premissa independente no argumento kantiano cuja consideração neutralizaria a acusação de non sequitur. Em seguida, será feita uma tentativa de fundamentar essa premissa, com base na análise do "Apêndice à Dialética Transcendental" e dos Prolegômenos a Toda Metafísica Futura. Essa análise terá prosseguimento com a reconstrução da resposta de Henry Allison à acusação de non sequitur, cuja principal característica é justamente inserir o uso empírico das ideias da razão como parte constituinte da teoria kantiana da causalidade, levando-a em consideração como complemento do argumento da Segunda Analogia. Abstract: This study aims to analyze the argument found in the Second Analogy of Critique of Pure Reason, emphasizing the evaluation of the non sequitur chargewhich traditionally weighs upon it. The beginning chapter approaches the causality problem as it has been formulated and solved by David Hume, aiming to place the context in which our study is held. After that, we will analyze the arguments presented in the Second Analogy as they were formulated by Kant himself, trying to clarify its concepts, assumptions and the objectives targeted by them. Next, we will analyze the arguments held by Peter Strawson, an author who charges Kant of applying non sequitur in his argumentation presented in the Second Analogy. Then, we will explore two possibilities of response, guided by Lewis Beck and Henry Allison. Lewis Beck gives us important hints about a possible Kantian reply to Strawson's charge, as he identifies an independent premise in the Kantian argument; taking this premise into account would neutralize the non sequitur charge. Next, we will try to ground this premise, basing on the analysis of the Appendix to the Transcendental Dialectic and the Prolegomena to Any Future Metaphysics. This analysis will proceed with the reconstruction of Henry Allison's reply to the non sequitur charge, whose main contribution is precisely taking the empirical use of the ideas of reason into account, regarding it as an essential part of Kantian theory of causality and considering it as an accomplishment of the argument presented in the Second Analogy.
