A depressão na sociedade contemporânea : contribuições da teoria da determinação social do processo saúde-doença

Abstract

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar as contribuições da teoria da determinação social do processo saúde-doença para a compreensão das altas taxas de depressão na sociedade contemporânea. Considerando que esta temática é extremamente relevante na atualidade, a concepção de depressão embasa o atendimento que é prestrado aos indivíduos por ela acometidos, bem como as formas com que se lidam com o transtorno, tanto a nível individual, como coletivo. A etiologia da depressão tem sido alvo de diversas polêmicas ao longo da história e, até os dias de hoje, sua definição é incerta. Sendo assim, é importante a discussão sobre suas causas e gênese. Este estudo teórico se posiciona como oposto à concepção hegemônica, ancorado na teoria da determinação social do processo saúde-doença, mediante a qual é possível compreender a produção social das formas biopsíquicas humanas. A partir do método materialista histórico-dialético, analisa a sociedade capitalista e a atual fase de acumulação, a reestruturação produtiva, com vistas a identificar os processos críticos destrutivos à saúde que podem estar relacionados ao surgimento de quadros depressivos. Conclui-se que o modo de produção capitalista produz um perfil epidemiológico marcado por sofrimento e adoecimento psíquico em níveis extremos e, portanto, as elevadas taxas de depressão atualmente verificadas. Abstract: This study aims to analyze the contributions of the theory of social determination of the health-disease process, in order to understand the high rates of depression on contemporary society. Considering that this subject matter is extremely relevant in actuality, the conception of depression is behind the treatment that is provided to individuals affected by it, as well as the ways in which this disorder is dealth with, both individually or collectively. Depression's ethiology has been the center of various controversies throughout history and, to this day, its definition is still uncertain. Therefore, it's important to discuss its causes and genesis. This theoretical study positions itself as opposite to the hegemonic conception, supported by the theory of social determination of the health-disease process, through which it is possible to understand the social production of the biopsychic human forms. Basing itself on the historical-dialectical materialistic method, it analyzes capitalist society, as well as the current accumulation phase, the productive reestruturation, aiming to identify the critical processes that are destructive to health and could be related to the emergence of depressive states. It concludes that the capitalist means of production produces an epidemiological profile marked by sufferin and psychic illnesses to extreme levels and, therefore, the high rates of depression that are currently verified.
