Abstract: Celiac disease (CD) is a sensitive enteropathy to gluten, with systemic and oral manifestations that lead to an imbalance between oxidants and antioxidants. Several studies have assessed oxidative stress in individuals with DC in tissues and plasma but not yet in saliva. Thus, the aim of this study was to analyze the salivary oxidative status in individuals with CD. Saliva was evaluated in 30 subjects between 05 and 33 years with CD confirmed by endoscopic biopsy from the small intestine. They were compared with individuals without DC with age and sex matched. The specimens were analyzed by means of colorimetric methods to determine the Total Oxidant State (TOS), Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC) and Oxidative Stress Index (OSI). Data obtained were tabulated and submitted the Mann Whitney test, a level of p < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. The TAC (0.002 ± 0.001 mM) and OSI (0154 ± 0304) in the celiac group showed significant differences compared to control group (0.007 ± 0.001 mM and 0.012 ± 0.013, respectively). The value of the TOS was virtually the same in both groups, group values with CD were 2524 ± 0268 µM and control group 2.492 ± 0.284 µM. Within the limits of the present study can be concluded that individuals with celiac disease have salivary oxidative state altered due to a decreased antioxidant capacity.
