The present study aimed to investigate the intentional actions within a group of studies focused on mathematical thinking of seventh grade students. The guiding question for this group was: How the intentionality of pedagogical activity can influence the students ‘mathematical thinking’? According to that, it was assumed the contributory dimension of a research-action and it was created a group of studies constituted by: the researcher, three undergraduate students from UFPR and a regent 7th grade teacher from a municipal school of Curitiba. The observations performed at the school and on the study group meetings, besides all students interviews and testimonials, were filmed. From April to December 2012, there were weekly meetings in the study group, covering theoretical and practical experience in order to create an investigative environment. Besides that, there were interactions in the school aiming to observe the movement of studies and practices experienced in the classroom. Throughout the process, sequences of activity reports were elaborated favoring the use, by the teacher, of methodologies such as problems solving and mathematical investigations. During the activities performed through work groups, it was prioritized the records and notes of the students while solving activities, besides the oral presentation of their obtained results. Having the data obtained, it was decided to present them as a documentary, analyzing them from the perspective of historical-cultural approach to psychology and theory of activity. All obtained data revealed that, as much more the teacher guides the teaching actions to the mathematical thinking, there is more possibility to analyze its manifestations. This establishes relations between: mathematical thinking and the communication, the creation of an investigative environment and the development of mathematical thinking and the language of the students, the way of mathematical thinking in the students and the development of a theorical thinking, the creation of concepts and the interaction between the students and their colleagues and also with their teacher.
