Abstract: The Historia Hierosolymitana is a historiographic work wrote by Foucher of Chartres over nearly 25 years of his life, at the beginning of the 12th century. Divided in three books, the first contains his visions and interpretations of the events connected to the expedition initiated in 1096 led by members of the occidental Christian nobility as an answer to the summoning of Pope Urban II (1088 – 1099) on the Council of Clermont – Ferrand in the year before, which would be later known as the first crusade. Once the expedition had a strong character of originality on its own characteristics, Foucher of Chartres wrote and analyzed the journey from the previous parameters of the 11th century society. The present dissertation demands to problematize the relation established by the author between the expedition he participated and another ways to exercise the spirituality on that time, like holy war and mostly pilgrimage. This work present the study of those concepts, with the crossings made by the author with the expedition. On the same way, this analysis make possible the comprehension of part of the process of construction of the later concept of crusade.
