Abstract: The theme that underlies this work is based on the insertion of the authors, in 2010, in a support group mostly composed by mothers who have lost their child. Listening to the narrative of these mothers brought up many questions about "the pain that has no name", as defined by the group participants. The loss of a child, a beloved object of great libidinal investment produces in the mother deep sadness and almost no perspective of rebuilding their lives. The approach and the clinical care of these mothers called our attention to investigate the issues involved in suffering, in order to contribute to the ongoing process of deconstruction and construction of psychoanalytic practice. This work is justified by the wealth contemplated in all psychoanalytic research that emerges from clinical listening. This topic has genuine relevance precisely because it comes from suffering people who demand spaces to be listened to. The intolerance to the theme of death by human civilization has closed these spaces for those who suffer from the pain of loss, a fact that has reflexes in university: it was found little psychoanalytic production on the theme of mothers who lost children. The intention of this study was to understand the suffering of mothers who don't complete the mourning from the death of their child. The method used was the theoretic and clinical, considering that the investigated issue came from clinical experience and was after analyzed through the Freudian psychoanalytic theory and current psychoanalytic authors who study this subject. As results, the study has opened the field to understand the suffering of mothers who lost their child and don't complete the mourning for his death as defined by Freud (1917). In other words, these mothers can't retract the cathexis from the lost object and relocate them in another object. These mothers are situated in a field in which the identification with the child is from a narcissistic order. Consequently, the shadow of the child rests with the mother and she enters in the melancholy field. The clinical practice with these patients shows the opening of a wound from the moment of the child's death. It seems like this practice involves a specific temporality, which insists on keeping the event of death, needing to be reissued. The analyst's work seems to be anchored in listening to the repetitive and constant reports connected to the loss event and give emotional support to the mother, with her new shapes and shading possibilities.
