Adaptação do Jogo de RPG comercial Dungeons and Dragons 4th edition para o ensino de inglês

Resumo: Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo fundamentar teoricamente uma adaptação do jogo comercial de RPG Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition para a sua utilização no ensino de língua inglesa dentro de uma sala de aula. Para alcançar tal objetivo foram realizadas pesquisas teóricas sobre design de jogos, educação e RPG - Role Playing Game. Esta pesquisa também apresenta um resumo da compilação teórica sobre emoções e entretenimento, originalmente realizada pelo pesquisador finlandês, da área de design de games, Aki Järvinen. Para a realização desta adaptação foi feita uma extensa análise do jogo comercial Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition, em busca de conhecimento sobre sua construção, seguido da análise de um método tradicional de ensino de inglês e a estrutura física da sala de aula. Uma vez concluída a adaptação do jogo, um questionário foi desenvolvido para medir qualitativamente o entretenimento e as emoções dos jogadores sentidas durante uma aula utilizando o jogo adaptado, sob a luz da teoria da experiência do jogador desenvolvida por Aki Järvinen. Finalmente, após um experimento aplicado em sala de aula com um grupo de alunos iniciando o curso de língua inglesa, os dados qualitativos coletados com o questionário foram analisados. O resultado indicou que os alunos se sentiram mais entretidos e mais motivados durante a aula de inglês, utilizando o método com o jogo adaptado, do que a aula utilizando o método tradicional de ensino de inglês. Abstract: This research aims to theoretically justify an adaptation of the commercial RPG game Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition for the use in teaching English in a classroom. To achieve this goal theoretical research were done on game design, education and RPG - Role Playing Game. This research also presents a summary compilation of theories on emotions and entertainment, originally performed by the Finnish researcher, from the game design area, Aki Järvinen. To accomplish this adaptation was made an extensive analysis of the commercial game Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition, in search of knowledge about its design, followed by the analysis of a traditional method of teaching English and physical structure of the classroom. . Once completed the adaptation of the game, a questionnaire was designed to measure qualitatively the entertainment and the players' emotions felt during a lesson using the adapted game, in light of the theory of player experience developed by Aki Järvinen. . Finally, after an experiment applied in the classroom with a group of students starting the English language course, the qualitative data collected through the questionnaire were analyzed. The result indicated that students felt more motivated and more entertained during the English class, using the method with the adapted game, than the class using the traditional method of teaching English.
