Abstract: This research, developed as a theoretical study aims to answer what is the role of children's television programs in the child's play activity and hence the development of the child psyche. The analysis will be mediated by the production of the authors of Historical-Cultural Theory in particular, Lev Vygotsky Semionovich, Alexis Leontiev and Daniil Borisovich Elkonin, especially for their studies on playing games and the development of the child psyche. Thus, at first, a review of the methodological foundations of Historical-Cultural Psychology and the theoretical training of the individual will be conducted. Later, will be discoursed about the psychic development in childhood, and then, the importance of playing games in preschool as main activity, in other words, fomenting and organizing psychic development at this stage. Finally, the aspects that characterize the activity of watching television, in particular, children's programs, as well as its role in the games played will be analyzed. It's possible to conclude that these programs do not contain the elementary functions of play as main activity in itself. But even though that do not have the role of play, they bring elements of generic objectivations in itself, in other words, the activity of television watching in childhood should be considered as raw material for the play, because it allows the appropriation of certain elements governing men's lives; in particular, their everyday life, in other words, objectivations in itself, thus promoting the mental development of the child in preschool age.
