Abstract: The aim of this study is to assess the composition and distribution of aliphatic (nalkanes) and Polycaromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in sediments collected along the coast of Paraná state, Brazil, in three sampling campaigns. To represent the distribution of hydrocarbons, twelve sites were studied in five coastal cities (Matinhos, Pontal do Paraná, Guaratuba, Paranaguá and Guaraqueçaba), where seven were river samples and five oceanic samples. To identify the anthropogenic contribution and the organic matter sources, physic-chemical and spectroscopic analysis were performed in samples of the water column. The total n-alkanes concentrations ranged from 1173,5 to 52515,0 ng.g-1, and the PAHS concentration ranged from 74,5 to 10843,5 ng.g-1 of dry sediments. The distribution of n-alkenes in the sediments was predominated by n-C27, n-C29 and n-C31, which represents terrestrial biogenic source. The PAHs showed higher concentrations of compounds with three or more aromatic rings with predominant pyrogenic sources. In the water column, the points located near the beaches had anthropogenic interference by domestic effluents, demonstrated by high values of ammoniacal nitrogen and ortophosphate concentrations, reaching 5.46 mg. L-1 and 0.86 mg. L-1, respectively. Several times these concentrations exceed the limit established by the CONAMA 357/05 legislation. The results of the fluorescence and visible-ultraviolet spectrophotometry indicated allochthonous sources-predominant organic matter in environments near the beaches, and a mix of terrestrial and marine humic substances in ocean samples
