Abstract: The objectives of this research was to evaluate possible interactions between Lepidoptera species and the ecosystems where they were collected and the influence of moon phase over their numbers. This search was developed between May 1993 and March 1994, in areas belonging to INPACEL Indústria de Papel Arapoti S/A, in Arapoti, Sarapuí and Curiúva, Paraná State, Brazil, with Eucalyptus grandis, Pinus taeda, Araucaria angustifolia, native vegetation, agriculture and pasture. Every fifteen days insects were collected from 19:00 to 23:00 hours in one point for each area either during new moon or full moon. Insects populations were studied through relative frequency, constancy, abundance, dominance, diversity and also through similarity and quotient indexes. A total of 19,770 individuals was collected being 25.57% in A. angustifolia, 21.53% in native forest, 15.78% in E. grandis, 15.35% in P. taeda, 15.03% in agriculture and 6.74% in pasture. Low frequency of the insects studied showed that none of them had influence in any of the areas studied. Among 182 species studied, 62 were dominant, with the agricultural area showing higher diversity while higher similarity was found between Araucaria angustifolia and agriculture areas. Eventhough with small differences higher activity of insects was found in Eucalyptus grandis, Araucaria angustifolia and agricultural areas during new than during full moon.
