Kuntze, Matayba elaeagnoides Radik., Nectandra grandiflora Ness et. Mart. ex. Ness, Ocotea porosa (Ness et. Mart.) Barroso, Campomanesia xanthocarpa Berg., Capsicodendron dinisii (Schw.) p. Occh., Ocotea corymbosa Mez e Ilex dumosa Reissek.
Abstract: With the objective of studying the changes occurred in a Araucaria forest, located in the UFPR Experimental Station (São João do Triunfo-PR), nine blocks with 9 ha of area, first evaluated in 1979, were recovered and measured in 2000. The alterations occurred in the forest (9 ha) during this period were analyzed in terms of its floristic composition (richness and diversity indexes), horizontal structure (density, frequency, dominance, cover, importance), diametric structure and dynamics (ingrowth, mortality and growth). In 1979, all trees with dbh equal or greater than 20 cm were identified, tagged, located and had their dbh, total and merchantable height measured. In 2000, all trees with cbh (circumference at breast height) equal or greater than 62,8 cm were measured, the individuals that were not computed in 1979 were considered as ingrowth, the missing ones as mortality. In 1979, 2133 trees from 51 species were counted in the forest survey, in 2000, 2202 trees from 55 species were counted. Therefore, only eight species dominate the forest, representing 80.88% of total density and 88.91% of forest's basal area: Araucaria angustifolia (Bert.) Kuntze, Matayba elaeagnoides Radik., Nectandra grandiflora Ness et. Mart. ex. Ness, Ocotea porosa (Ness et. Mart.) Barroso, Campomanesia xanthocarpa Berg., Capsicodendron dinisii (Schw.) P. Occh., Ocotea corymbosa Mez e Ilex dumosa Reissek. The forest presented an inverse-J type diameter distribution for both 1979 and 2000. However the number of trees in the higher diameter classes increased in 2000. The forest has shown a mortality of 513 trees (24.05%) and an ingrowth of 591 individuals (27.71%), i.e., the net increase in the number of trees presented by the forest was 3.66%, during the studied period. Variation between blocks was detected: some increased their density, as block number 7, others decreased, as block number 18. Ingrowth and mortality varied between species, Cinnamomum vesiculosum (Ness) Kosterm. showed the greatest ingrowth rate and Ilex dumosa showed the greatest mortality rate. There were variations in mortality rates due to species and some qualitative variables as sociological position, vitality an stem quality showing, the following pattern: the worst the stem quality and vitality and lower the sociological position, greater the mortality rate. The forest increased, in terms of the median, 5.30 cm in diameter and 0.02882 m² in basal area between 1979 and 2000. Despite the fact that both diameter increment distribution and basal area increment distribution presented skewness to the right, the former is bimodal and the last one is unimodal. Block number 1 presented the highest increments values, the block number 10 the lowest ones. Nectandra megapotamica (Spreng.) Ness was the species that showed the highest increment values, on the other hand, the murta (Eugenia sp.) and Allophylus edulis (A. st.-Hii.) Radik. ex. Warm, were the species that presented the lowest increment rates, both for diameter and basal area.pt_BR
