Abstract: The phosphorus deficiency (P) limits the development of the winter pastures of the subtropical region of the Brazil, reducing the grass offer in the critical period of pasture production. The objective of this work was to evaluate phosphorus rates on the shoot dry matter, root development and the phosphorus (P), nitrogen (N) and carbon (C) tissue levels of Ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum L.), as well as analyzing the ossibility to establish a phosphorus dilution curve for this crop. The experiment was lead in Pinhais-PR, in a native grass area on a Cambissolo very low in available phosphorus (1,6 mg dm-3), in 2009. The reatments were P rates (0, 45, 90, 180 and 360 kg P2O5 ha-1) with four repetitions, applied in surface. The phosphorus application generated increases in the P available in the soil, resulted in a cycle reduction and raised the P levels in the plants, reaching levels capable to supply the animal necessity for P in the two biggest rates. The N and C levels were not influenced. The shoot dry matter was increased in all the periods evaluated with the P rates, varying of 16 to 2826 kg ha-1, in the blooming stage, for zero and 360 kg P2O5 ha-1, respectively. Root density was influenced by the P addition; however the rate of 45 kg P2O5 ha-1 already was efficient to a good root development. The relation between aerial dry matter and the roots was increased, indicating a bigger plant’s investment in the roots when there is P deficiency. With the data was possible to establish a P dilution curve for the Ryegrass.
