Abstract: The aim of this paper is to understand and explain what Math Investigations and Investigative Activities are by showing their differences and, if possible, the difference between them and what it is known as 'Problem Solving'. The research was done in a Math teaching context in the Elementary School (second stage - Middle school). It was first based in articles and papers done by João Pedro da Ponte and experts from the University of Lisbon. Texts from Paul Ernest, George Pólya, Thomas Butts and Alan Schoenfeld were also important references to the initial group of researchers.
